WF Nutcracker wins Supreme Champion at Winchester A&P Show

WF Nutcracker wins Supreme Champion at Winchester A&P Show

Carrying on the legacy of WF Fire Cracker, we are now pleased that one of his sons WF Nutcracker has won Supreme Champion Huacaya at the Winchester A&P Show on Saturday the 3rd March 2018.

WF Nutcracker has a fine soft handling medium fawn fleece, with loads of style and character. While still only a junior he is showing great potential for the future and we will follow his progress with interest.

Fire Cracker wins Supreme Champion at Ellesmere Show

It was another successful day for the Waratah Flats show team at this year’s Ellesmere A&P Show held last Saturday. With 115 alpaca entries at Ellesmere Show this year it continues to be one of the largest spring shows in Canterbury.  So we were delighted when our five year old fawn stud male, Waratah Flats Fire Cracker, continued to shine through and ended the day winning Supreme Champion Huacaya.

Other show results on the day were:

WF Larkspur – 2nd in a strong junior white female class of 15 alpacas

WF Kentucky – 1st in the junior light fawn males and Champion Light Fawn

WF Keystone – 1st in the intermediate light fawn male

WF Fire Cracker – 1st in the senior medium fawn males, Champion Fawn and Supreme Champion

Export to Germany

June 2015

We would like to offer our congratulations to Talina Lorei and her family at the Lopaka Ranch in northern Germany for the purchase of three lovely Waratah Flats females that have just been exported and have safely arrived in Europe. These females were selected by Talina on her visit to New Zealand in September last year, when she was looking for new genetic breeding stock for their developing alpaca ranch.

Talina is a delightful young lady that helped out a number of alpaca breeders at the shows around Canterbury last spring, including the Alpaca Expo. She has a good nature with the alpacas and an excellent understanding of the quality of alpaca fleece.

At Waratah Flats, Talina selected three Forestglen Seth daughters because of their soft handling fleece characteristics and their low micron. Each of these females has since been mated to WF Hat Trick and we wish them well with these lovely females and their future offspring.

Hat Trick now working

We are delighted to report that WF Hat Trick is now producing positive results with several alpaca females having scanned pregnant to him from Feb/March matings. In fact WF Hat Trick is so keen to work that we have packed him off to Qtaz Alpaca Stud in the North Island, where he will be standing at stud for a few months before returning to Waratah Flats in the Spring.

WF Hat Trick – 3rd fleece stats = 17.9u, 3.0 SD, 16.7 CV and CF of 100%

He has recently been accepted as one of the elite stud males picked for this year’s Alpaca Expo stud male service on-line auction. We hope you will support this auction and place your bid for WF Hat Trick, however if you do miss out, them he will be available for outside matings in Canterbury from about mid October 2015.

Fire Cracker on stud duty

Following a number of successful years in the show ring, WF Fire Cracker is now out in the local alpaca community on stud service duties, having has spent much of the summer at several high profile stud farms in North Canterbury. We already have a number a classy cria sired by this male and we wish the current breeders well from his services.

With four Supreme Championships to his credit, plus a string of other broad ribbons, this stunning young medium fawn male is one of the best males we have bred to date from our International Fleece Supreme Champion, Forestglen Seth.

As you can imagine we are very proud of WF Fire Cracker, with his super soft fleece that is densely packed on to his true to type frame and it is not hard to see why the judges also like him so much. This male is a real winner.

2014 fleece stats (5th fleece) very impressive – 18.7u, 3.4 SD, 17.9 CV and CF of 100%.

If you are interested in finding out more about Waratah Flats Fire Cracker or you are considering using his stud services, then check out his details under Stud Males on the home page or just give us a call.

Canterbury A&P Show

Canterbury A & P Show is one of the largest agricultural shows in the southern hemisphere and with a large alpaca section is often regarded as the South Island “bench mark” for many alpaca breeders. Our judges this year was the well known Australian alpaca judge Lyn Dickson.

We had a small show team this year, as apart from a few select males, all our other alpacas had already been shorn. WF Hat Trick won his class and then went on to win Reserve Champion Adult Male. While our new boy on the block, WF Imperial Wizard impressed the judge with his fineness, but was well over fleeced to compete successfully.

This left WF Firecracker once again shine through, which he did in the senior fawn male class and then went on to Reserve Champion Senior Male, behind Stoneleigh Valentino who took out Supreme Champion. We were also delighted later in the day when WF Fire Cracker went on to win colour Champion – Mid/Dark Fawn Huacaya. A good result overall.
